Approach To Care

Dr. Jessica Idahor is a Family Nurse Practitioner, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, and Public Health Nurse. She has been working in healthcare since 2006 and has 11 years of intensive care experience and nearly six years as a nurse practitioner. Healthcare has changed significantly in the last 16+ years, however, her approach to caring for individuals has not.

Firmly believing that “knowledge is power” and “prevention is key,” her hope is that her patients will leave the hospital knowing more about their health condition than when they came. This will allow them to make informed decisions about their own medical care.

She appreciates how dynamic healthcare is, learns something new every day, and is consistently surprised by people in the best possible way. She listens with an empathetic ear and values the individuality of each person she is caring for.

  • Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Degrees through The College of St. Scholastica in MN

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
  • Public Health Nurse
  • Family Nurse Practitioner

Jessica grew up in a small town in Central Minnesota.

Shortly after becoming a registered nurse, she relocated to Durham, North Carolina, and began working at Duke University Medical Center as a critical care RN in the Surgical/Trauma Intensive Care Unit. At this level one trauma center, she shortly transitioned to becoming a charge nurse and gained invaluable experience with critically ill patients.

She met her husband while living in North Carolina, and they moved back to Minnesota in 2009. She began working in the Intensive Care at North – Maple Grove Hospital shortly after it opened in 2010.

She enrolled in graduate school in 2013 while still working at the hospital and graduated in 2017.

She had her three children while pursuing her doctorate degree.

The last five years of her medical practice primarily included caring for patients with sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, and narcolepsy. She discovered that sleep health plays a pivotal role in disease prevention as well as the overall health for each individual, and it impacts energy, mood, heart health, stroke risk/prevention, weight management, and diabetes.

Mostly, she enjoys time with her family, doing anything artistic, and being outdoors. This especially includes a good bonfire!
